Kangaroobie

Kangaroobie believes that coming on camp is about a number of different things – learning to live together with other people cooperatively, challenging yourself to try things that you might think are too hard, taking responsibility for yourself and, most importantly, having fun! Kangaroobie is flanked by the Great Otway National Park, Port Campbell National Park, the Southern Ocean and the Gellibrand River – providing a wide range of study options.

121The program takes students into a myriad of different ecosystems, from changing coastal environments with highly adapted plant and animal life, to a volcanic crater, where the fragile limestone coast is constantly being worn away by chemical and physical weathering, plus the Gellibrand River and associated ecosystems.

 Programs

Kangaroobie’s location, adjoining several national parks and the ocean, make it ideal for outdoor and environmental activities. The programs are designed with students in mind and include aboriginal interpretation, a beach hike and games, bush cooking, bush walking, camping, canoeing, farming, fishing, geography, horse riding, hut building, low ropes, mountain biking, an obstacle course and orienteering.

Education Programs

Kangaroobie’s unique location is an oasis for environmental science students, giving visitors the chance to observeStudies at Kangaroobie our dynamic geography and geology systems in action.

We have no less than five diverse natural ecosystems on Kangaroobie including wetlands, an estuary, coastal heath, cool temperate rainforested gullies, and sand dunes.

Kangaroobie’s Matt Bowker is an environmental science teacher and writes study programs to match individual schools’ key learning points.

“We can look at coastal processes, sand dune succession, river siltation, and highly adapted plants and animals.”
