The University of Salford is a great place to be a student. We are close to Manchester with its mix of music, night-life, restaurants and culture and we have a great social scene within the University organised through our student union website

There’s more to student life than your chosen course, and where you’re based makes a big difference to your university experience. With MediaCityUK right on our doorstep and Manchester city centre only a stone’s throw away, we couldn’t think of a better place to study than at Salford..
Manchester is one of the most exciting and largest student cities in Europe, having undergone significant regeneration over the last few years.
From music to football, shopping to art culture, there are so many different activities and experiences to get involved with, right in the heart of both Manchester and Salford.
Manchester is often regarded as the football capital of the UK, so getting down to Old Trafford to watch a game is a must. If music is your thing, there are tonnes of ways to explore Manchester’s music scene, with numerous bars and clubs and live music venues such as Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Arena hosting gigs and concerts throughout the year.
Our shopping centres are second to none, with Manchester Arndale and intu Trafford Centre boasting all the latest high street fashion stores, homeware departments and quirky boutiques. Restaurants are a plenty both within and around the city, spoiling forchoice when it comes to wining and dining.
From our University, it takes approximately 10 minutes on the train from Salford Crescent to Manchester city centre, so you’ll never be far from all that Manchester has to offer to our students.
Salford Quays offers it’s own culture of digital and tech-savvy businesses and organisations, including our very own MediaCityUK campus. BBC and ITV offices and studios, alongside over 80 other creative companies, surround the campus.
The Lowry theatre and gallery can also be found at Salford Quays, overlooking the Manchester Ship Canal, and across the way is the Lowry Outlet Mall. This houses a range of discounted clothes stores, restaurants and a cinema.
With Salford Crescent train station located close to our main University campus, getting out and about to locations across the UK couldn’t be easier.
Several of our favourite hotspots in the North West include Blackpool, Chester, Liverpool, the Lake District National Park and Southport, and offer a great day out for those looking to travel a little further afield for fun.

Transport Links
Salford has excellent transport links, which makes it easy to get to the University from anywhere in the UK or overseas.We have our own train station, Salford Crescent, which provides a quick route into Manchester city centre and to Manchester international airport.
Campus Life
Our University offers the best learning spaces for you to develop skills in your chosen subject area.
But we aren’t resting on our laurels, and are currently expanding our campuses even more.
As our University continues to grow, so do your opportunities.
We are committed to investing in our students through; innovative and state-of-the-art facilities, a dedicated and expert team of academics, and a profound and personal student support team.
Peel Park: Our main campus is home to lecture theatres, study spaces, facilities and amenities. Some of the key buildings based here include Maxwell, New Adelphi, Chapman, Peel, Lady Hale, Clifford Whitworth Library and University House.
MediaCityUK: The place to be if you’re studying a media-based degree. Our MediaCityUK campus opened in 2011 and sits cosily amongst over 80 creative and digital organisations, including the BBC and ITV.
Frederick Road: Courses based on this campus tend to be from the Schools of Health Sciences and Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work and Social Sciences. We have a multitude of industry-standard facilities here with practice clinics, a mock hospital ward and a human performance lab.
Atmosphere: Our on campus bar and kitchen is the centre of student activity at the University. Whether you’re after pint or just a cup of coffee, Atmosphere is a stylish and modern-student setting that is perfect for socialising!
Salford Museum and Art Gallery: Located on our Peel Park campus, the museum features a programme of exhibitions offering an insight into the history and heritage of Salford. It’s also a more relaxed setting if you fancy a chat.
Shock Radio: Based at the heart of our campus, our in-house radio station, Shock, is broadcasting for your listening pleasure! You can get involved with the production of the show here.
Sports Centre: If it’s sport you’re into then the Sports Centre, open 7 days a week, has something for you. Whether you’re looking to make a splash in our five lane 25m pool, or chill out and relax in the spa and sauna, there really is something to suit all sporting needs.
Getting to know your Students’ Union could prove one of the most important decisions you make here at Salford. The Union offers a great venue for socialising and meeting new people; and also offers a thorough and personal student support system for any students struggling to adapt to university life.
Our Students’ Union also has a number of societies that you can join, with clubs ranging from Law to Poker.
