Location

Wrexham has developed significantly over the last few years with investment in a new shopping centre, cinema, ten-pin bowling alley and restaurants.

For going out with friends there are plenty of options for enjoying the nightlife from traditional pubs through to clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. If live music is your thing there are a number of venues which feature everything from local bands to well-known names and comedians. Wrexham live music venue Central Station has been named “Wales’ leading live music venue” in The Independent and Kerrang.

Facilities

Wrexham Glyndŵr University boasts a wide range of facilities which support the courses we offer across our Wrexham and Northop campuses. Our facilities are key to us giving practical opportunities to our students and our campuses boast a host of great facilities tailored to the courses we offer.

Our library houses journals, electronic resources and thousands of books. The majority are available for loan, or if you’d prefer to stay and study in the library, you can always get some work done in one of the quiet areas. There is space for group study as well. The University has computer suites conveniently located across campus. All computers offer internet access, and there are specialist labs for computing, engineering and art and design students

Library

Being able to speak more than one language is a great asset in the 21st century. Whether you are interested in learning a new language or improving one you have already studied, you’ll find a class to suit you at our Second Language Centre.

Our main sports centre is situated at the heart of the Wrexham campus. The facility complies with national competition standards for badminton, netball, basketball, volleyball, futsal and handball. We also have provision for table tennis and matting for martial arts. On the first floor there is a purpose-built sprung floor dance studio which provides an excellent home for our many fitness classes.

Our art gallery, Oriel Sycharth Gallery is open to the public, with exhibitions put on by a wide range of internationally famous artists. Displays change throughout the year, and include exhibitions by the University’s art students and graduates.

Machine shop

We offer a diverse range of engineering degrees and have the facilities to match. For automotive engineering students there are cars to work on and for aeronautical students there is a state-of-the-art flight simulator and a hangar complete with jet and piston aircraft. Our electronics laboratory features both mechanical and corrosion testing equipment.

The Scene of Crime Unit is designed to look like the inside of a house with a bathroom, bedroom, lounge, kitchen, dining room, and hallway. It can be set-up as a realistic reconstruction of different crime scenarios.

Our health, social care, sports and exercise science, and psychology students have access to the best facilities around. Our Human Performance Laboratory is filled with specialist equipment to aid students’ learning. This includes highly advanced cardiovascular analysis equipment and 3D motion analysis instruments for studying physiology and biomechanics. The facility is used to carry out fitness testing on professional sports people.

Our eight-bed Chinese Medicine Clinic is open to the public and student practitioners are able to deliver treatments. Treatments like Acupuncture, Moxabustion and Chinese Patent Herbal Medicine are used to treat all sorts of conditions, including back pain, obesity, depression and insomnia.

Forensic Science Lab

Our Creative Industries Building has been developed to encompass the full creative industry in one, allowing for multi-disciplinary projects to take shape. Our computing, broadcasting, art, journalism and recording students all utilise this facility and all the exciting hi-tech equipment it houses from TV studios through to local radio station, Calon FM. Our theatre and performance students have access to their own theatre and performance area which has two studios with specially sprung floors, plus a third multi-purpose studio. This has all the latest AV equipment, a “voice studio” for students to practise in, along with an open plan craft area and a wardrobe space.

Our art and design facilities are housed in a traditional Victorian building which provides art students with studio space, galleries and specialist computer labs. There’s an art shop and café so students can pick up art equipment and materials and refreshments without needing to leave the building. Specialist facilities include wood workshops, welding bays and design areas. Its ceramics workshops include glazing areas and pottery workstations, while kiln rooms are available in the jewellery and metal workshops.

Applied Art class

The University’s Centre for the Child, Family and Society doubles as a day nursery and university research centre for child development. There are facilities for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolchildren including inside and outside play areas, sleep rooms and a sensory room as well as seminar and observation rooms.

Our Northop campus is based in a beautiful rural setting. It is the hub for all the University’s land-based and equine educational provision. Facilities here include lecture rooms, study spaces, sports hall, workshops and laboratories. Specialist facilities at the Northop campus include access to an ancient woodland and conservation area, formal and informal gardens, and a British Horse Society (BHS) Approved Equine Unit.

Student life

Your student life will be key part of your university experience and something you will always remember. Your time at university will bring many opportunities to make new friends – not just on your course but at your student accommodation, at the students’ union and through the clubs and societies you join.

If you have a sporting interest or just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle during your studies Wrexham Glyndŵr University has a wealth of sporting facilities both on-campus and near-by. Our location means that if you like outdoor activities there are plenty of opportunities to continue a sport that you enjoy or even try a new one.
