Schools of Study:

Campus LifeNewton Park and Sion Hill campuses

Bath Spa University is a place of wonderful contrasts, and life on campus demonstrates this only too well. From the unique blend of history and modernity in its buildings and facilities,  to the mixture of tranquillity and vibrancy in the campus community – Bath Spa offers it all!

So if you want some peace and quiet to do some thinking or relaxing in the beautiful campus grounds, you’ll always be able to find a quiet spot – perhaps walking around the lake at Newton Park or sitting under the trees at Sion Hill. But you’ll be sure of a lively buzz in the Student’s Union or the refectory when you want to get back to socialising with friends.

And although the campuses aren’t right in the city centre, they’re within easy access of all the attractions of Bath. Newton Park is about four miles outside Bath, but with good bus links into the city, and Sion Hill is just on the edge of the city, within walking distance.

Our Campuses

We have two main campuses; Newton Park and Sion Hill. Newton Park is about four miles from the city centre and is home to 99% of our undergraduate courses. Sion Hill sits right in the city centre and is our main base for all Art and Design. In addition we have a specialist Postgraduate Centre at Corsham Court where much of our postgraduate study and research takes place.

Newton Park Campus

This is the larger of the two main campuses, which is home to all undergraduate courses and subjects except Art and Design. There can’t be many universities in the UK that rival this unique setting. It’s an amazing parkland estate (leased from the Duchy of Cornwall), and despite its idyllic rural setting, it’s only four miles from the buzz of central

The lake at Newton Park

Bath. The grounds were designed by the well-known landscape architect Capability Brown in the eighteenth century. We have our very own nature reserve, a lake with its own lakeside walk, woods, historic listed buildings, and rolling fields. But don’t be fooled by the historic buildings and tranquil setting. Behind the 14th century walls lies a hub of activity and modern machinery. As a student you might find yourself using the latest computer equipment and technology in the 14th century Castle tower – the oldest building on the campus and a scheduled ancient monument – or in the Creative Writing Centre in the Castle Gatehouse, another scheduled ancient monument.Newton Park Campus is also home to the Students’ Union which forms the hub of social activity on campus.

 Sion Hill Campus

Sion Hill

Sion Hill campus is the main base for the Bath School of Art and Design. Situated in the residential Lansdown district of Bath, an area renowned for its architecture, it’s also helpfully within walking distance of the shops and bars of the city centre.

Sion Hill’s facilities have recently undergone a huge refurbishment and upgrade, making them some of the most modern in the UK.Sion Hill now boasts some of the most advanced resources around for art and design students, including graphic communication studios, electronic media workshops, studios for art, textiles and sculpture, workshops for wood, etching, lithography and silkscreen. Sion Hill is well known for its buzzing creative atmosphere, and friendly community feel.

Corsham Court

Corsham Court

Corsham Court is a centre for postgraduate teaching and research. The campus is the base for the Research Support Office which works with Schools on research funding bids, post award administration and knowledge exchange, and the Graduate Affairs Office which provides administrative support for postgraduate research across the university. There is also administrative support for Masters courses taught at the Campus.Other facilities include the campus library, specialist facilities for music and textiles, an art gallery, and postgraduate common rooms and quiet study areas.

On Campus FacilitiesThere are many facilities for students, staff and visitors at both Newton Park and Sion Hill campuses. These range from food and drink facilities to health and wellbeing services.
