THE SCHOOL

Mill Hill School offers a broad education, where academic excellence is complemented by cultural, sporting and social development.

Hard work, self-criticism, enthusiasm and loyalty are encouraged in order to support our aim of developing leadership and the acceptance of responsibility. Although the School is a non-conformist Christian Foundation, girls and boys of all denominations and faiths are welcomed.

We firmly believe that the environment in which children are taught and learn is of paramount importance. We are privileged to have a school set in the most beautiful parkland setting, quite unique in London. The teaching facilities at Mill Hill are also of the highest order, particularly since the restoration of the Edwardian Marnham block in 2004 and the opening of the fabulous Favell Building in 2007.

ABOUT MILL HILL SCHOOL

Mill Hill School was founded in 1807 as a Non-Conformist Grammar School. Originally a boarding school for boys, it now offers education to boys and girls. In addition, full boarding, day and weekly boarding options are on offer. Mill Hill is the Senior School of the Mill Hill School Foundation, with Belmont, the Mill Hill Preparatory School, offering day education for pupils aged 7 to 13 and Grimsdell, the Mill Hill Pre-Preparatory School being a day school for children aged 3 to 7.

Daily Life

A distinctive feature of Mill Hill School is its House System. All pupils, whether day or boarding, are members of a House.

Houses’ study and recreational facilities are, of course, home to the boarders. House Masters and House Mistresses keep an overview of the development of the pupils in their care. They deal with both academic and pastoral issues and provide a secure and structured environment within which pupils can be encouraged to take advantage of all that is on offer at Mill Hill.

Recent inspection reports have praised the quality of pastoral care for both day and boarding pupils.

The health and welfare of pupils is also a key responsibility of the Domestic Bursar, who oversees the production of meals for both day and boarding pupils. The School also has an appropriately staffed Medical Centre and there are regular visits by GPs from the Millway Medical Practice.

Pupils’ social responsibility is informed through the work of the Eco Society which works closely with the Domestic Bursary.

 Boarding

most importantly, when pupils board at Mill Hill School – they don’t just join a School – they become part of an extended family; they have a sense of belonging and know that they are accepted as individuals, that problems will be shared and triumphs celebrated. Living and working within a genuine community, provides a safe training ground within which to develop critical life-skills, such as the importance of communication, consideration and compromise, lessons which cannot be taught as powerfully or meaningfully in the classroom. With a grading of ‘outstanding’ attributed to Mill Hill by the ISI Inspectors during the last Inspection for the excellent pastoral work undertaken by the School, our reputation for the highest standards of pastoral care is well deserved; to us, every child does indeed matter, hugely.

Fees

For the Academic Year 2015/16 School Fees applicable from 1 September 2015 will be as follows:

Registration Fee

The non-returnable charge for lodging a Registration Form. (for UK applicants) £100.00
(for overseas applicants) £150.00

Acceptance Deposit

Payable on return of the completed Acceptance Form. A term’s fees (less deposit/s held) will be immediately payable by the parents if, for any reason, they cancel their acceptance of a place less than a term before entry or the pupil does not join the School after a place has been accepted. The Sixth Form Place Acceptance Deposit will be fully refunded if the pupil fails to meet the School’s entrance requirements.

a.   Places for 13+ and 14+ including Belmont, Mill Hill Preparatory School Candidates (£400 will be credited against the first term’s fees and the remainder will be repaid as a credit without interest after the final payment of fees or other sums due to the School on leaving). £1,000.00
b.   Places in the Sixth Form (£400 will be credited against the first term’s fees and the remainder will be repaid as a credit without interest after the final payment of fees or other sums due to the School on leaving). £1,000.00
c.   In addition to a. or b. above, Overseas Pupil places for 13+ and 14+ and the Sixth Form, an Overseas Deposit of one term’s Fees applicable to the Pupil (in accordance with the Fees List) is normally charged in the case of a Pupil where normal residence is outside the UK and will be payable on return of the completed Acceptance Form. The Overseas Deposit will be repaid by means of a Credit to the Fee Account for the Pupil’s final term. Until credited, the Deposit will form part of the general funding of the school.
